When it comes to picking your first reptile pet, the options can seem a bit overwhelming. So if you are looking to add a reptile to your family, but are not sure where to start, here are three main ones to consider below:

First Time Tips to Owning a Reptile

Lizards

A leopard gecko is one of the best options for first-time lizard owners. Small in size and pretty simple to care for, A 15-20 gallon tank is an excellent habitat for them. As a nocturnal reptile, no UVA/UVB light is needed. A diet of insects will do, and they are pretty easy to handle, too.

Snakes

When it comes to becoming a snake owner, the biggest issue to consider is their dietary needs. Though they often only eat once a week, they do eat whole prey, so you must be willing and ok with doing so. If you are looking to purchase a snake, a corn snake might be your best starter option. They grow around three to five feet and live for an average of ten years. They are submissive and easy to care for, too.

Turtles

Turtles can be a time consuming and somewhat boring pet for most people. Nice, in theory, they are messy and pretty dull too. However, if a turtle is on your list, an eastern box turtle might be best. They do not get large like some of the others; there are no aquatic requirements, and are pretty adaptable to a variety of environments, too.
